Wheatgrass JuiceWhat is wheatgrass? What are the health benefits of wheatgrass juice? Wheat grass is a grass closely related to wheat that looks like lawn grass. It comes from the young Agropyron plant and is made into juice by crushing the grass to extract the juice within the blades. It is then sold as juice or dehydrated and processed and made into a powder form and also capsules. You can actually grow wheat grass in your own home and make your own juice if you so desire. It only takes about 14 days before the grass is ready to juice. There are many claims to the health benefits of wheatgrass. These claims include the ability to provide energy, suppress appetite, lower blood pressure, improve metabolism, clean the liver, slow the signs of aging and stabilize blood sugar levels. Unfortunately, since there have been few actual studies done on wheat grass juice there is no way of knowing if any of these claims are completely true. That being said, there is at least a suggestion that wheatgrass juice may have health benefits. Studies done on barley grass showed that this plant can actually strengthen your immune system. It is believed that wheat grass juice can do the same. Another test shows that the side effects from chemotherapy in patients drinking wheatgrass were lessened or off set. While more studies need to be done this test looks promising. Other tests on cancer patients indicate that wheat grass may help to create healthier blood naturally. Wheat grass juice is considered to be an encompassing food as it contains almost all the vitamins, nutrients and minerals our bodies need to remain healthy. Keep in mind however, that some of these vitamins and minerals are found only in trace amounts in wheat grass so drinking this juice is not an alternative to a well rounded healthy diet. While more studies are being done to determine the exact benefits of wheat grass juice most consumers want to know if they should be taking it now. For those looking to become more healthy, wheat grass juice does have the following benefits.
