The benefits of physical fitness goes beyond having a good physique. In fact, having a good physique alone may not be a true indication of being physically fit while being curvy doesn't mean that you are not fit. Hey, you can always cover your thunder thighs with your flabby tummy. No big deal, pun fully intended.
Anyway, physical fitness means different things to different people. But generally, physical fitness is defined as being in good shape or in healthy condition to perform physical activities. Obviously, a professional athlete's or a sportsman's definition of physical fitness is different from the rest of us.
For the average guy it is more about practicality. To him the importance of physical fitness means having a body that functions efficiently and effectively. A body that allows him to go about his daily life at relative ease. A body that allows him to enjoy a variety of fun activities. In short, a body that enables him to live life to the fullest.
Imagine being able to climb 4 flights of stairs without needing 10 minutes to get your breath back. Dancing till dawn without looking as if you forgot to wear a deodorant. Making love all night long in a variety of positions without twisting a limb. Carrying your bride over the threshold without breaking your back. Chasing after a cab effortlessly. Although the way the cabbies drive, you'll probably be more at risk while you are inside the cab.
These are the benefits of physical fitness and the real joy of being physically fit; joys that transcend physical beauty.
So how do you improve your physical fitness? Here are a few basic fitness tips.
Adopt a better lifestyle.
Reduce your alcohol, caffeine and nicotine intake. Rest regularly and get plenty of sleep. Make time for things you enjoy. Catch up with your friends, read a book, watch a movie, and laugh a lot.
Eat healthier.
Eat more unprocessed food especially fruits and vegetables. Reduce your fat intake. Reduce processed carbohydrates too. Less salt, less sugar and definitely less junk food. Junk is junk. All it would do is add more junk to your trunk.
Exercise regularly
Include a combination of cardio, strength and flexibility exercises. Yes, you need all three to be physically fit, burn calories and fat. Cardio gives you more for energy, endurance and speed. Strength or weight lifting builds and strengthens your muscles. Plan a fitness exercise routine where you alternate aerobic and anaerobic exercises.
And last but not least, stretches like yoga makes your body more agile and less prone to injury. Include also relaxation exercises to keep your mind healthy and fit.
Other benefits of physical fitness are stress and anger reduction, weight loss, injury and disease prevention, greater power of concentration and self control, better functions of the organs, healthy and glowing skin and stronger immune system.
Perhaps one the other important benefits of maintaining health and physical fitness routines is the mere fact that it makes you feel better and look better. When you feel better about yourself, your life just gets better. Isn't that motivation enough to get off your butt and park it on the exercise bike?
