Time Management

Homework is important as it teaches children time management as well as how to set priorities.

Parents can give them the option to choose which one hour slot they want to dedicate to homework. So they have to decide what's important. An hour of cartoon which they can watch again tomorrow, or doing their homework before tomorrow's class. This teaches them to plan, stay organised and taking action of their life. By managing their own time and setting priority, children also learn responsibility.

Review and Revise

Doing homework kills a few birds with one stone. Not only do children need to do their homework to get out of trouble with parents and teachers alike, they also automatically get to review their comprehension of the lessons and revise at the same time.

Focus and Solution

In a large classroom with many like-minded friends, children can often get up to all sorts of mischief and may pay hardly any attention to the lessons and end up learning almost nothing. It's only natural.

One of the benefits of homework is there is no such distraction during the homework assignment hour. They are forced to concentrate on their homework instead, especially if they want to get it over with so they can get up to more fun things. They will also be forced to solve problems independently since there is no one to copy the answers from.

Making a chore less of a bore

Very often, getting your children to do their homework is like trying to get Britney Spears to put on more clothes. It can be a tiring uphill battle that leaves you both irritated. If common sense, pleas and threats don't work, perhaps it's time to bribe your kids.

Rewards Programme

It works for Coffee outlets, it should work for your children too. Every time your child finishes his homework on time, he'll get a stamp. Once he gets 10 stamps, you can reward him with something small. Once he gets 50 or 100 stamps, he can get the grand prize.

Lucky Draws

Put lots of treat in a box or bowl. If he doesn't skip his homework in one whole week, he gets to draw a prize from the box.

Make homework a two-way street

Have a little friendly bet. Quiz each other and see who gets the most answers correct. The loser can do the dishes or something. Or play an educational game together. And no, strip poker is not educational.
