Benefits of Breastfeeding

There are so many benefits of breastfeeding your new baby. The advantages of breastfeeding a baby go beyond having the ability to provide your baby with nutrition.

The advantages include helping to protect your baby from respiratory infections, ear problems, and abdominal trouble. The antibodies that are found in a mother's milk will help a baby to fight sicknesses. These antibodies are known for protecting a baby from all different infections.

These are just a few of the benefits to breastfeeding your baby. If they do have any of these issues, often they are a lot less of what they would have had if they were not breastfed.

Other studies have come to the conclusion that breastfeeding may also reduce the risk of your baby developing high blood pressure and diabetes. Some researchers have thought that there could be a big connection of intelligence linked back to the babies that were breastfed.

Seasonal allergies as well as other allergies, obesity, childhood leukemia, SIDS, and osteoporosis are also believed to be less likely for those babies that were breastfed. The benefits of breastfeeding are so many to list, but they aren't only about benefitting the baby that is being fed, but there are also many advantages of breastfeeding for the mother.

A mother that breastfeeds her child or children is less likely to develop certain cancers. Breast cancer and ovarian cancer risks are reduced greatly when a woman breastfeeds her baby. A mother that breastfeeds often finds it easier to kick the baby blues, and are less likely to suffer with post partum depression. Breastfeeding also helps a woman to lose the baby fat after birth because their metabolism is so high helping your body to produce the milk.

Another advantage of breastfeeding is the amount of money mothers save by giving their baby mother's milk. Formula is very expensive, but breastfeeding is free.

Many people wonder what kind of sacrifices they will have to make in order to feed their babies. Nobody wants to cut out their favorite foods, unless they really have to. There aren't many foods that people have to cut out, but alcoholic drinks are definitely something you will need to cut out of your diet.

Other than alcohol, you will need to cut down on caffeine each day. Most moms are able to continue eating everything else that they normally did. It's good to eat that way, and you can monitor your child's reaction to the foods you eat. There may be things that you will need to cut out of your diet if they make your baby gassy, or they have an allergy against something, but most of the time eating your everyday food will be fine. It's good for your baby and yourself to eat a balanced diet.

The hardest part about breastfeeding once you and your child learn how to latch, is figuring out how to breastfeed in public. It can be tough for women to feel comfortable to feed their baby in public, due to fear of exposing their breasts. With all the benefits of breastfeeding, this one hurdle to get over will not seem so big when you keep the whole picture in perspective. Always remember all the advantages of breastfeeding that you are providing for your baby.
