Benefits of a Colon Cleanse

You must have likely heard about the benefits of a colon cleanse to your colon health. Colon cleansing is also sometimes referred as bowel detoxification, colon detox, colonic irrigation or colon therapy.

Many experts claim that colon cleansing detoxifies the colon and restores its regularity. It may help you lose weight, rid your body of poisonous toxins and make you feel healthier. And according to some, it can even cure some ailments.


They say that the average person has ten to twenty pounds of waste stuck in their colon. This waste produces toxins. The toxins make you feel heavy and sluggish and it's just plain gross. Cleaning your colon is supposed to get rid of all that junk that are stuck inside.


There are also challengers against colon cleansing however, and they say that it's harmful, unnecessary and it can actually be dangerous. Still, many people clean their colon, and some on a regular basis. They do see positive benefits from it. The benefits of colon cleansing are an ongoing debate that will likely continue well into the future.


There are many ways to clean your colon. One of the easiest and common method is to go out and buy one of the many colon cleanse products. These are typically powders you mix with water to drink or are sold in capsules. They will make you use the bathroom so much there couldn't possibly be anything left in your colon. And that's how colon cleansing typically works.


Some people like to drink a glass of sea salt water, which immediately makes you use the bathroom. Some eat and drink natural foods that cleanse the colon such as prunes, oats, nuts, seeds, spinach, artichokes, berries, pears, figs, and apples. Or they take natural herbal and health supplements such as aloe vera gels, probiotics or cascara sagrada.


All of these will work to flush out your system. You'll feel lighter because you won't have all that waste inside of you. You'll feel better and some claim using a colon cleanser will even clear up your complexion.


Yet the opponents of colon cleansing won't be silenced. They claim that your body naturally pushes out all waste on its own as that's how bowels are meant to function. They claim that the benefits of a colon cleanse are all in a person's head. They also say that colon cleaning gets rid of the good bacteria, which are necessary for good health.


And, finally, their most vocal complaint against colon cleansing is that it's dangerous. People can become addicted to the laxatives. Flushing your system too much can result in dehydration and even death. These dangers of colon cleansers, according to the challengers, are proof that you should leave your colon alone.


Whether the proponents or opponents are right, nobody truly knows. Even with all the colon cleansing pros and cons, one thing for sure is that people who have done colon cleansing report better health, a more positive attitude and they all seemed to have lost weight.


As long as you're smart about it, don't do it too often and follow your doctor's advice, you should be able to reap many of the benefits of a colon cleanse.
